        Nathaniel Boswell "Tootie" Goodwyn, 79, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2011 in his home in Powhatan, VA. after a courageous battle with cancer.

        N.B. was a retired lumberman who served as president of R. C. Goodwyn and Sons Lumber Co. for 30 years.

        He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard C. Goodwyn and Mary W. Goodwyn; one brother, William "Kaiser" and his wife, Jean Worsham.

        He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jean Moss Goodwyn; two sons, Michael and wife Cindy, Dennis and wife Katie, all of Powhatan; two daughters, Sallie Ann Jett and husband Thornton, of Suffolk, Teresa Vinson and husband, Ray, of Havana, FLA.; three brothers, Royce and wife, Barbara, Archie and wife, Mary Ann, R. Christian "Pal" and wife, Patsy; one sister, Mary Jane Ransone and husband, James "J. A.", all of Powhatan; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

        N.B. was a lifetime member of Red Lane Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and was a loyal member of the Men's Fellowship Class. N. B. also served on the Advisory Board of the Jefferson Bank, as well as the Huguenot Academy Holding Board.

        His passing leaves a void in all our lives and an emptiness in our hearts, but he leaves a legacy of love, honesty and kindness. He showed his faith by the way he lived.

        The family received friends Monday at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home.

        Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Red Lane Baptist Church, Powhatan.

        Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Red Lane Baptist Church Building Fund, 2095 Red Lane Rd., Powhatan, VA. 23139.
