Clara Carrington Morris

Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery

        Clara Carrington Morris, daughter of the late Paulus and Mary Carrington, was born May 30, 1911 in Powhatan County, Virginia. She departed this life after a brief illness, and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at the age of eighty-eight.

        She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age, and she was educated in Powhatan County Public Schools.

        Clara lived and worked for a number of years in New York City. Upon returning to Powhatan, Virginia she devoted her time to rearing her children and her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her flower garden.

        She leaves to cherish fond memories four daughters, Sandra Kemp (Darryl), Maurice Hicks (James), Jewnita Tyler (Maurice), and one devoted Alcibia Morris; two granddaughters, Anita Hicks and Christina Kemp; four grandsons, Kim and Michael Hicks, Gregory and Brian Tyler; two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Alexis; five brothers-in-law, Carl, Elton, and Earl Morris, Albert Royal and Milton Sadler; four sisters-in-law, Anna Bell Royal, Alice Whitaker, Virginia Sadler and Helen Morris. Two devoted nephews, Roy Morris and Sherman Hampton; two devoted nieces, Shirley Adams and Mary Lockett; a very special friend, Celestine Wynne, a devoted neighbor, Gwendolyn Booker and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is gone from earth's toil to her heavenly rest,
to be home for all time, in the dear savior's breast;
And there when our sun sinks low in the sky,
God grant that we meet, in the sweet bye and bye.
