Obituary

Phyllis Batchelor Johnson

Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery

God knew she was suffering and the hills were hard to climb, so he closed her weary eyelids and whispered, "Peace Be Thine."

On Saturday, July 8, 1995 Phyllis Batchelor Johnson departed this life at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Phyllis was born in Powhatan County to the late William Arthur and Sadie Morris Batchelor on October 30, 1935. At an early age, she was converted, baptized and became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was formally educated in the public schools of Powhatan. After graduation, she moved to Washington, DC to seek employment. She worked in various capacities until she secured a position with the United States Postal Service in 1967. She worked diligently in her position for twenty-five years until she retired in 1992. Phyllis was a loving, caring individual who gave unselfishly of herself to her children, grandchildren and others. She enjoyed life, loved traveling and being with family and friends.

She leaves to cherish fond memories her children, Don, Derek, Glanda, Darryl and Kevin; her grandchildren, Teryln, Derek, Jr., Rhonda, Treyon, Shartell, Rochell and Ternell; a devoted friend, Tom; her sisters, Marion and Geraldine; her brothers, Milton, Roland and Ryland; her aunts, Bernice Morris, Lucy Taylor and Lillian Stewart; her daughters-in-law, Kim and Tonya; sister-in-law, Helen; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Although it is hard to understand,
Why certain things must be,
But there is a reason for it all,
Beyond our power to see.
Beyond that gate our loved one,
Finds happiness and rest.
There is comfort in the thought,
That a loving God knows best.

Sorrowfully,
The Family
