Manerva Jackson

        Manerva Jackson, the eldest daughter of the late Charlie Jackson and Virgie Miles Jackson was born in Powhatan County, VA December 28, 1916.

        At an early age she was converted, baptized and joined Mount Zion Baptist Church in Powhatan County. She later moved her membership to Hollywood Baptist Church where she sang on the choir, and served on the missionary and the usher ministries.

        She attended Powhatan Public Schools. After school she attended Hicks Beauty School and became a licensed beautician. She served in this capacity for many years. Later she moved to Riverhead, Long Island, New York where she was employed at Hilltime, Inc. until her retirement. After retirement she returned to Virginia to make her home. She was a kindhearted friendly person who loved fishing, cooking and her cats.

        For a number of years she has been in declining health and on Saturday, August 28, 2004 she departed this life at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, VA.

        She leaves to cherish fond memories seven brothers; Walter, William, Charlie, Lawrence, Arthur, Joseph and Bennie Jackson; seven sisters, Charlotte Jackson, Virgie Taylor, Ida Jackson, Maude Britt, Mahalia Turner, Mary Scruggs and Lenell Smith; three aunts, Rosetta Johnson, Mary Carter and Elma Hubbard; two brothers-in-law, Henry Taylor and Allen Smith; three sisters-in-law, Rosa, Mable, and Diane Jackson, and a number of nieces, one devoted Gail Ferguson; nephews, one devoted McDonald Jackson, cousins and friends.





Like a ship that left its mooring,
And sailed quietly out to sea
Someone dear, has sailed away
In calm serenity.
But God has promise of greater joy
Than earth could have in store,
But God planned a richer life
Beyond the unseen shore.
